Meet Your Coach

Hi! I'm Lydia. I am a licensed attorney, professional violinist, and certified professional coach.
-
My name is Lydia Lui 呂思 (she/they), JD, MA, MM, BM, CPC. With decades of professional legal and musical experience, and nearly 800 hours of psychotherapy experience, I founded WISE JADE COACHING to provide coaching services to people looking for creative and performance improvement, as well as those who are seeking guidance and support to achieve their goals and dreams, find greater meaning in life, and live happier lives.

I believe that being a human can be complicated. And for anyone who has ever been asked, "What are you?" or struggled with feelings of being different or being othered, this adds an additional layer of complexity. Often, this triggers more questions: "Where do I fit in? Do I fit in? Where do I belong?" As a nonbinary, queer, neurodivergent, and multicultural Asian American, these questions are as familiar to me as my own skin, which does not fit into any one box. As such, I approach coaching from a multicultural and intersectional perspective: one of openness, empathy, compassion, and curiosity.
-
Due to my graduate training in clinical mental health counseling, I am influenced by therapeutic modalities such as narrative therapy, client-centered therapy, solutions-focused therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT), feminist therapy, expressive art and music therapies, and mindfulness. However, as a coach, I do not diagnose or treat mental health disorders. Rather, I support you and work with you to help you discover your own path in your life, regardless of the challenges that life throws your way.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
-
Coaching is a collaboration between you and your coach in a thought-provoking and creative process that inspires you to maximize your personal and professional potential, facilitates the creation and development of personal and professional goals and dreams, and provides a path forward for you to achieve your goals and dreams.
-
While there is much overlap between coaching and therapy, the main difference is that therapy focuses on the diagnosis and treatment of mental health disorders, most commonly through exploration of past life experiences, while coaching focuses on creating and envisioning your future and empowering you to take steps in the present to make your imagined future a reality.
-
Coaching is for anyone who feels stuck or frustrated with their life, anyone who feels uncertain about where to go or what they can do to change their life, anyone who seeks support, affirmation, validation, or guidance as they explore, reclaim, or rediscover their true self, or anyone who faces challenges or obstacles preventing them from achieving their goals and dreams.
-
Coaching sessions are generally 55-minute 1-on-1 virtual meetings held weekly, biweekly, monthly, or at other periodic intervals or time lengths depending on your need, preference, and availability.
In sessions, your coach will:
Affirm, validate, and take a non-judgmental view of you and your life experience
Believe in you and trust that you, and only you, are the one who knows what is best for you
Support you as you untangle the many layers that feed into your perceptions of yourself and beliefs about the world
Help you to re-orient your thoughts and beliefs to foster positive growth and change
Your coach will do this by:
Using open-ended questions to reframe, clarify, and illuminate your perspective of reality
Employing a variety of creative interventions to help you identify and express your true self
Digging deeper into any underlying roadblocks that make positive growth or change difficult
Unlocking possible alternatives so that you can reclaim agency and power in your life
-
We charge a fixed hourly rate per session, which we frequently review to ensure that it is reasonable. Because we want to be as inclusive as possible, and we understand that each person's financial picture may differ, our hourly rates will depend on your own unique situation. Please note, however, that because coaching does not involve the diagnosis or treatment of mental health disorders, we do not take medical insurance.
-
Yes! Our coach is a Certified Professional Life Coach (CPC) from the Certified Life Coach Institute, which is accredited by the International Coaching Federation (ICF).
